O Postgraduate Program Stricto Sensu upon Genomic Sciences and Biotechnology at the Catholic University of Brasília (UCB) has researchers working in various areas of health sciences and agronomy, focusing on the areas of concentration of Genomic Sciences and Cellular and Molecular Biology.

The Program was implemented 21 years ago and currently presents a seven (7) concept in the evaluation of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) for Master's and Doctorate courses, and is considered an excellent program in the country.

The core of the Program is based on a body of highly qualified teachers, trained in recognized Brazilian and international research centers, with experience in the use of the most advanced technologies in modern biology; an adequate infrastructure for teaching, research and entrepreneurship in these areas; the capacity to attract student talent with motivation and full dedication to graduate activities; in close collaboration with national and international teaching and research institutions, contributing to the consolidation of the Center -West as a competent Science and Technology hub in the area of Genomic Sciences and Biotechnology.

In this sense, the UCB and the Postgraduate Program Stricto Sensu upon Genomic Sciences and Biotechnology received approval for the construction of a new laboratory, already considered the most modern Nanobiotechnology laboratory in the Midwest and one of the most important in Brazil. Only six institutions in Brazil obtained favorable opinions in the Public Call, and a total of approximately R$ 3.5 million will be allocated to the new laboratory. This amount will be divided between works for the installation of equipment, import fees and the purchase of equipment. The new laboratory will place UCB at the forefront of technology development and innovation, focusing on Nanobiotechnology.

The research lines of Postgraduate Program Stricto Sensu upon Genomic Sciences and Biotechnology at UCB are:

  • Molecular Biology of Microorganisms, Plants and Animals;
  • Genomics of microorganisms, plants and animals;
  • Bioinformatics applied to genomics and proteomics;
  • Biotechnology/nanobiotechnology applied to human, animal, plant health and the environment;
  • Entrepreneurship, intellectual property, and regulation in biotechnology.

About the program

The Stricto Sensu Graduate Program in Genomic Sciences and Biotechnology at the Catholic University of Brasília (UCB), is led by researchers working in various areas of health sciences and agronomy, with emphasis on Genomic Sciences and Cellular and Molecular Biology.

The Program was opened in 2001, and currently has a national level seven evaluation by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) for its Masters and Doctorate courses. As such, it is considered a program of excellence in Brazil.

The researchers in this Program have backgrounds in renowned Brazilian and international research centers. The Program is equipped with technology for modern biological research, adequate infrastructure for teaching, research and entrepreneurship, and seeks to attract student talent with motivation and dedication to graduate activities. We collaborate with many national and international teaching and research institutions, contributing to the consolidation of the Brazilian Midwest as a competent science and technology center in the area of Genomic Sciences and Biotechnology.

UCB and the Stricto Sensu Graduate Program in Genomic Sciences and Biotechnology has recently received approval for the construction of a modern Nanobiotechnology laboratory, set to be considered among the most important in Brazil. UCB was one of only six institutions in Brazil to win funding in the public call, with a total of R$ 3.5 million (Brazilian Reais) to be allocated for the new laboratory. This will place UCB at the forefront of innovation and development, with a focus on Nanobiotechnology.

The research lines of the Stricto Sensu Graduate Program in Genomic Sciences and Biotechnology at UCB are:

  • Molecular Biology of Microorganisms, Plants and Animals;
  • Genomics of microorganisms, plants and animals;
  • Bioinformatics applied to genomics and proteomics;
  • Biotechnology/nanobiotechnology applied to human, animal, plant and environmental health;
  • Entrepreneurship, intellectual property and regulation in biotechnology.

Doctorate: It is a stricto sensu graduate course that certifies a person's ability to carry out research in a particular area of science. The courses must last at least two years and, in addition to the preparation of the thesis or final work, the candidate must study a certain number of subjects related to their area of concentration, as well as undergo partial and general exams.

‍

What is the difference between Lato Sensu and Stricto Sensu postgraduate studies?

How do investments work?

For regular students, fixed installments are charged, with annual adjustment. On the other hand, special students, who study separate subjects, pay monthly fees fixed biannually in their own public notice. UCB has benefit policies that are updated every semester. Check the current discounts on the desired course page.
